Dental Crown Anatomy: A Simple Explanation

A crown might seem simple, but there's more to it than meets the eye. At the same time, it might look like a quick fix, but getting a dental crown involves more than just popping a cap on your tooth. There are several factors to consider, from the type of crown to the preparation process. So, before you decide, let's talk about what's involved.

A diagram of a dental crown with labels explaining its parts

    Your Esthetic Dentistry Experience includes:

    • The crown: That's the top part of your tooth you can see.
    • Tooth types: We've got cutters (incisors), tearers (canines), grinders (premolars), and crushers (molars).
    • Neckline: Where the crown meets the root. You can usually see it.
    • Root: The part underground, holding your tooth in place.

Why Is a Dental Crown Needed?

Dental crowns are the perfect solution for weak, cracked, or discolored teeth. They're like a protective shield that keeps your teeth strong and beautiful. Crowns can even help hold bridges together and cover dental implants. So, if you want a strong and bright smile, dental crowns are the way to go!

Emax Crowns Vs. Zirconia Crowns: Which One Is Right For You?

Learn About The Ideal Material For You If You Wish To Restore Your Molars Or Front Teeth.

Your needs for your teeth will dictate the choice between EMax and Zirconia Crowns. If you're restoring your front teeth, EMax Crowns are usually the better option because of their beautiful translucency, which looks much like the real thing. They will blend seamlessly with your smile and perfectly suit visible areas.

On the other hand, Zirconia crowns are ideal for your molars or back teeth. They are very strong and can support most chewing pressures, serving the durability you need daily. Both alternatives are great, but this choice will depend on where you need the crown and on the desired look.

    E-max Crowns

    • Super natural-looking: They blend right in with your real teeth.
    • Minimal prep: Less work on your teeth means more comfort.
    • Strong and sturdy: They're tough, but still look great.

    Zirconia Crowns

    • Super strong: Ideal for your back teeth that handle the toughest chewing and grinding.
    • Natural look: They might not be as see-through as E-Max, but they still look great.
    • Versatile: They can go on any tooth, front or back.

“This place was amazing! I was a little nervous at first to go out of the US to get dental work done. I’m glad I did it. The doctors and staff were great. They really care about how your feeling through each procedure. I love how each procedure was done by a doctor who specializes in that particular area of dental work. I had full mouth restoration done and the final result came out perfect. I paid 1/3 of the price that I was estimated in the US and I got a nice vacation at the same time. I had an extensive amount of work done and my pain was managed well and kept very minimal. In the end, my teeth look perfect, they feel great, and I couldn’t be happier. Thank´s to all esthetic team!”

“I had such an amazing experience at Aesthetic Dentistry! The staff are all super friendly, the facility is super clean, modernized, and they use the latest high technology in ensuring I’m receiving the best care for my teeth. Their prices are also much more affordable in comparison to the United States. They also provide transportation services and an on-site hotel for convenience. I traveled all the way from the United States (Virginia) to have my dental work given that in the United States, dentist generally overcharge. I highly recommend this place!”

“Esthetic Dentistry was spectacular from beginning to end. The quality of the dental care is fantastic. However, they go above and beyond and truly made me feel special by arranging transportation for me, including being picked up from the airport. The staff was friendly and helpful. They helped me save money, they treated me with warmth and care. I find myself now hoping for a toothache so I have an excuse to go back 😁”

At Esthetic Dentistry, we have an on-site dental laboratory with CAD/CAM and CEREC technology with which we fabricate crowns, bridges, full-arch prostheses, and dental veneers. We first take a 3D scan of your mouth and send it to a smile design software. Then, we send all the specifications to the milling machine that will fabricate each tooth crown. Finally, a dental technician will add the final touches to your crowns to ensure they look perfect.

Teeth trimming before placing crowns is a necessary procedure. This is because we need to make enough room for the crown to bond to your tooth and work perfectly. In addition, the tooth prep process is painless. We will provide you with local anesthesia.

A full mouth rehabilitation restores the top and bottom teeth. Commonly, we use from 16 up to 28 dental crowns. Depending on your teeth’s condition, we will place more or fewer crowns.

If you have a dental crown, it's important to contact your dentist immediately if you experience any of the following:

    - Loose crown
    - Bad breath or a foul taste.
    - Cracks or chips in your crown.
    - Sharp edges that irritate your tongue or gums.

A dental crown covers your entire tooth, while a veneer is a thin, porcelain shell that covers the front surface. The best option for you depends on your specific goals:

    - Veneers: Ideal for cosmetic concerns like chips, cracks, or discoloration.
    - Crowns: Primarily used for restorative purposes to improve the health of a tooth, but can also enhance its appearance.

There is no difference between a dental cap and a crown. These are simply two different terms used to describe the same restoration.

During your complimentary consultation, we'll discuss your treatment plan and associated costs. We offer a variety of affordable payment options to help you invest in your oral health and quality of life.

Our dental team is committed to ensuring your comfort throughout the crown placement. While you may experience some sensitivity after the procedure, temporary or permanent, we'll take all necessary precautions to minimize discomfort.
